Valve guides Installation Electronic catalogue Catalog Download

The purpose of the valve guides is to support the side forces operating on the valve stem.

The guide also centres the valve on the valve seat and conducts a part of the heat from the valve head via the valve stem to the cylinder head.

Due to these extreme loads, the correct choice of material with appropriate characteristics is of critical importance for the product quality.

Materials
Valve guides are made of materials with low friction and high thermal conductivity. Especially grey cast iron with perlitic structure and brass materials with special alloy elements have proved themselves for this purpose.

G1
Grey cast iron with perlitic micro-structure. This material shows good wear resistance and is suitable for guides subjected to normal loading.

G2
Grey cast iron with perlitic micro-structure and a higher phosphorus content. The reticular distribution of the phosphide results in higher wear resistance and improved operation under marginal lubrication. Suitable for applications with medium loading.

G3
Grey cast iron with perlitic micro-structure and higher phosphorus and Cr contents. Suitable for the use in highly turbo charged engines.

B1
CuZnAl-alloy. This material shows a very good wear resistance and low-friction running properties. It is suitable for valve guides of normal to medium loading.

SM
Sinter metal material developed for the heavy duty range. For high performance engines and gas engines (propane, LPG).
