The cylinder head is of special significance in a combustion engine. The way it is constructed has a considerable influence on the operating behaviour and performance of the engine.
The cylinder head has the following tasks:
- To seal off the combustion chamber from the cylinder block.
- To determine the shape of the combustion chamber and to dissipate the heat from the combustion.
In air-cooled engines, the heat from the combustion is dissipated through the integrated cooling fi ns, and in water-cooled engines it is dissipa ted through the water ducts. |
